Fabric Upholstery Care

When it comes to maintaining furniture, for some reason the upholstered is often overlooked. Why? Well, I think most people feel that upholstered furniture can be difficult to maintain. This is not true, and with proper care and cleaning you will keep your upholstery in great shape for years to come.

My first tip is to vacuum your upholstery often. At least once every two weeks. Doing so will remove the abrasive soil that builds up on the surface.

My next tip is to flip and rotate your cushions. Most couch and chair cushions are made to be reversible and doing so will spread out the wear and make your furniture last much longer. Flip every two weeks when you do your vacuuming.

Here's another tip, close your blinds during the day when you are not home. This will keep out those damaging rays. Intense sunlight can cause most fabric to fade.

My last tip is a secret tip. Do you have animals? If yes, then get yourself some of those rubber dish gloves. The rubber glove will make it easy to remove hair from your upholstery. Simply put it on and rub your hand over the fabric in one direction using several passes. You will see that the hair bunches up into clumps making it easy for removal.
